Call to Worship

One: Give thanks to the Holy One!

Many: The God of our ancestors is with us!

One: Give thanks to the Holy One!

Many: We call upon the name of our God, and our God responds.

One: Give thanks to the Holy One!

Many: The steadfast and faithful love of our God lasts forever!

Opening Hymn              “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty ”                   Hymnal #1

1)  Holy, holy, holy!  Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.

Holy, holy, holy!  merciful and mighty!

God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

2)  Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,

casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,

who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

3)  Holy, holy, holy!  though the darkness hide thee,

though the eye of sinfulness thy glory may not see,

only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,

perfect in power, in love and purity.

4)  Holy, holy, holy!  Lord God Almighty!

All thy works shall praise thy name, in earth and sky and sea.

Holy, holy, holy!  merciful and mighty!

Good in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Sermon          “The Real Calling of Humility”         Dr. Keith Ray

Thoughts to Ponder: We often think of humility as being passive or weak.

But what if the work of humility comes from a place of strength,

knowing that we are all created in the image of the Divine?

Prayers of the People

Closing Hymn/Offertory        “Spirit, Open My Heart”  Hymnal #692

Refrain  —  Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living.

As you love may I love, in receiving and in giving.

              Spirit, open my heart.

1)  God, replace my stony heart with a heart that’s kind and tender.

All my coldness and fear to your grace I now surrender.      Refrain

2)  Write your love upon my heart as my law, my goal, my story.

In each thought, word, and deed, may my living bring you glory, Refrain

3)  May I weep with those who weep; share the joy of sister, brother.

in the welcome of Christ, may we welcome one another. Refrain

Benediction
