Call to Worship           Dr. Keith Ray

One:   We gather to worship together,

All:    Different people, different lives, different histories,

One:   Yet all children of the same Parent,

All:    Created lovingly by the Source of all life!

One:   We gather to reconnect with one another,

All:    Different people, different lives, different histories,

One:   Yet all disciples of one Teacher.

All:  Jesus, the Word made flesh, dwelling among us.

One:   We gather with different joys and sorrows, different hopes and fears….

All:    Different people, different lives, different histories,

One:   Yet one people with one God, one faith, one baptism.

All:    Let us open ourselves to the presence of God at work in us, among us, and through us.

Opening Hymn     “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”       Hymnal #611

Words by Henry van Dyke; Music by Ludwig van Beethoven

1)  Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love!

Hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away.

Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

2)  All thy words with joy surround thee; earth and heaven reflect thy rays;

stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,

chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee.

3)  Mortals, join the happy chorus which the morning stars began.

Love divine is reigning o’er us, joining all in heaven’s plan.

Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife.

Joyful music leads us sunward in the triumph song of life.

Closing Hymn   “God, Be the Love to Search and Keep Me - O Christ, Surround Me”                         Words and Music by Richard Bruxvoort Colligan                               Hymnal #543

1)  God, be the love to search and keep me; God, be the prayer to move my voice;

God, be the strength to now uphold me:  O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

2)  Bind to myself the Name of Holy, great cloud of witnesses enfold;

prophets, apostles, angels witness:  O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

3)  Brightness of sun and glow of moonlight, flashing of lightning, strength of wind,

depth of the sea to soil of planet:  O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

4)  Walking behind to hem my journey, going ahead to light my way,

and from beneath, above, and all ways:  O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

5)  Christ in the eyes of all who see me, Christ in the ears that hear my voice,

Christ in the hearts of all who know me:  O Christ, surround me; O Christ, surround me.

Benediction                           Dr. Keith Ray

Bible Study Resumes

If you think that God wrote (or dictated) the Bible, that it descended from heaven in Elizabethan English with Jesus speaking in red, and that it has some magical power, then this is probably not the study for you.  But if you recognize that the Bible contains the faith story of our ancient ancestors, including their ancient understandings of their experience of the divine (however wrong we might think their explanations are), then you might want to consider joining us at 6:00 Monday nights.  We meet by Zoom.

If interested, contact David Johnson (ampaw2t@gamil.com) or Cynthia Warner (cynthiakwarner@mac.com) to be added to the email list. There is no charge and we won’t come knocking on your door to try to convert you.
