Call to Worship*

Find someone you haven’t greeted yet today and tell them how very glad you are that they are here!

Opening Hymn*       “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”               Hymnal #611

1)  Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love!

Hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away.

Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

2)  All thy works with joy surround thee; earth and heaven reflect thy rays;

stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,

chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee.

3)  Mortals, join the happy chorus which the morning stars began.

Love divine is reigning o’er us, joining all in heaven’s plan.

Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife.

Joyful music leads us sunward in the triumph song of life.

Scripture Reading                           Mark 9:1-8

Through these words, may we hear the word of God.

Second Reading Yoga Sutras, Book 2:3-5

Sermon      “Meet Me on the Mountain: Ignorance”       Rev. Laura Beth

Prayer of Reflection

Hymn of Reflection    “Spirit Of God Descend Upon My Heart”            Hymnal #688

1)  Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;

wean it from earth; through all its pulses move;

stoop to my weakness, mighty as thou art,

and make me love thee as I ought to love.

2)  I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,

no sudden rending of the veil of clay,

no angel visitant, no opening skies;

but take the dimness of my soul away.

3)  Hast thou not bid us love thee, God and King;

all, all thine own, soul, heart, and strength, and mind?

I see thy cross; there teach my heart to cling.

O let me seek thee, and O let me find!

4)  Teach me to feel that thou art always nigh.

Teach me the struggles of the soul to bear,

to check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh.

Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.

5)  Teach me to love thee as thine angels love,

one holy passion filling all my frame;

the baptism of the heaven-descended Dove,

my heart an altar, and thy love the flame.

Circle of Prayerful Care and Concern

Closing Hymn and Offertory*       “You Shall Go Out with Joy”           Hymnal #80

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace;

the mountains and the hills will break forth before you;

there’ll be shouts of joy, and all the trees of the field will clap,

will clap their hands.

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands;

the trees of the field will clap their hands;

the trees of the field will clap their hands while you go out with joy.

Benediction*
