Call to Worship

Leader:  God of New Directions, we come to you weary from casting our nets in the same familiar waters.

People:   We long for a new way, yet we cling to what we know.

Leader:  When our efforts fall short, remind us that you call us to cast our nets on the

other side.

People:  Open our eyes to fresh possibilities and unexpected blessings.

Leader:  Shift our perspective so that we may see your abundance in surprising places.

People:  With faith, we trust in your guidance and follow where you lead.

Opening Hymn                “Called as Partners in Christ's Service”               Hymnal #761

1)  Called as partners in Christ’s service, called to ministries of grace,

we respond with deep commitment fresh new lines of faith to trace.

May we learn the art of sharing, side by side and friend with friend,

equal partners in our caring to fulfill God’s chosen end.

2)  Christ’s example, Christ’s inspiring, Christ’s clear call to work and worth,

let us follow, never faltering, reconciling folk on earth.

Men and women, richer, poorer, all God’s people, young and old,

blending human skills together gracious gifts from God unfold.

3)  Thus new patterns for Christ’s mission, in a small or global sense,

help us bear each other’s burdens, breaking down each wall or fence.

Words of comfort, words of vision, words of challenge, said with care,

bring new power and strength for action, make us colleagues, free and fair.

4)  So God grant us for tomorrow ways to order human life

that surround each person’s sorrow with a calm that conquers strife.

Make us partners in our living, our compassion to increase,

messengers of faith, thus giving hope and confidence and peace.

1)  God of the sparrow   God of the whale   God of the swirling stars

How does the creature say Awe    How does the creature say Praise

2)  God of the earthquake   God of the storm   God of the trumpet blast

How does the creature cry Woe   How does the creature cry Save

3)  God of the rainbow   God of the cross   God of the empty grave

How does the creature say Grace   How does the creature say Thanks

4)  God of the hungry   God of the sick   God of the prodigal

How does the creature say Care   How does the creature say Life

5)  God of the neighbor   God of the foe   God of the pruning hook

How does the creature say Love   How does the creature say Peace

6)  God of the ages   God near at hand   God of the loving heart

How do your children say Joy   How do your children say Home

Peace Church is continuing a sermon series examining Christian Nationalism – what it is, where it comes from, and why it matters for people of faith right now.  This isn’t a series about partisan politics; it’s an honest look at how religious identity gets weaponized, and what the Gospel actually has to say about power, belonging, and the common good.

Join us Sunday, May 24 at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Pendleton. All are welcome, and we’d love to have friends from other congregations with us.

*****************

On Saturday, May 30, from 8:00 am to 12 noon, there will be a joint yard sale with PFLAG and NACCP!   If you have some good yard sale items, please bring them on Sundays.  Our last date to contribute any items is Sunday, May 24.  There is also a sign-up sheet in the church entry hall for volunteers to help price and sort items, and later to monitor an area/table on sale day.  All proceeds will be contributed to the Shower Fund.

*************

Looking ahead to the next gathering of the Meet and Eat group, they will get together on Wednesday, June 3, at 5:30 pm at Doolittle’s Restaurant in downtown Anderson.  All are welcome to join!
***************

NACCP has received a Mary Hemphill grant of $3,500, facilitated by the Inspire Committee of the Synod of the South Atlantic, to partially fund the new shower in the handicap bathroom at the estimated total cost of $7,100.

We are SO grateful for a total of $5,932 so far!  If you have not yet made a contribution or want to do more, please consider joining us to raise about $1,168 more to make it happen!

If you choose to donate with a check, write it to NACCP, and make a note in memo for “Shower” or place cash in an envelope with a notation for the shower!
