Call to Worship

One: The ever-present Divine dwells in the sanctuary and in homes, in public spaces and our interior lives.

Many: Behold the greatness of the Holy One in the expansiveness of these sacred spaces.

One: We seek God’s face on Sunday mornings and evenings…and throughout the

week.

Many: We live in the presence of the Holy One all the days of our lives.

One: We call out for God’s grace, strength, and guidance.

Many: Seek the face of the Holy One.  Recognize God’s greatness.

Opening Hymn           “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”          Hymnal #611

Words by Henry van Dyke; Music by Ludwig van Beethoven

1)  Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love!

Hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away.

Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

2)  All thy works with joy surround thee; earth and heaven reflect thy rays;

stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,

chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee.

3)  Mortals, join the happy chorus which the morning stars began.

Love divine is reigning o’er us, joining all in heaven’s plan.

Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife.

Joyful music leads us sunward in the triumph song of life.

Sermon     “Unity in Uniformity and Difference”                        Dr. Keith Ray

Theme:  According to Paul, diversity and difference are strengths in the Christian community.  Our unity comes not in uniformity but in our commitment to work for justice and good will in the world as we learn from the life and teachings of Jesus.

Prayers of the People

Closing Hymn/ Offertory     “Breathe on Me, Breath of God” Hymnal #286

Words by Edwin Hatch; Music by Robert Jackson

1)  Breathe on me, Breath of God; fill me with life anew,

that I may love what thou dost love, and do what thou wouldst do.

2)  Breathe on me, Breath of God, until my heart is pure,

until with thee I will one will, to do and to endure.

3)  Breathe on me, Breath of God, till I am wholly thine,

until this earthly part of me glows with thy fire divine.

4)  Breathe on me, Breath of God, so shall I never die,

but live with thee the perfect life of thine eternity.

Benediction
