Opening Hymn           “Sing a Happy Alleluia”                      Handout

Words by Shirley Erena Murray; Music by Robert Clatterbuck; Arranged by Jim Strathdee

Verse 1 Sing a happy alleluia, sing it out with heart and style

We’re the echo of God’s laughter,  we’re the image of God’s smile.

Refrain Alleluia, all creation, alleluia, everyone!

Alleluia, all creation, alleluia, everyone!

Last time: Alleluia, everyone! Alleluia, everyone!

Verse 2 We're the proof of God’s good humor,  we’re the twinkle in God’s eye                                                 Made to shine, reflect the glory,  given light and space to fly.         Refrain

Verse 3 Sarah laughed at God’s good timing, Mary sang and David danced,

Jesus smiled and hugged the children so is life for us enhanced.   Refrain

Verse 4 Ev’ry day sing alleluia!  We are loved, though so absurd,

Human, foolish, chosen people, God still takes us at our word!      Refrain

 Scripture Lesson           Isaiah 58:1-12

Sermon                  “Intermittent Fasting”                                   Dr. Keith Ray

Theme:  While fasting is historically a significant part of religious practice, the prophet Isaiah calls us to the practice of economic justice as we seek to draw close to the Divine.

Prayers of the People

Closing Hymn/ Offertory                   “I Am Standing Waiting”          Handout

Words by Shirley Erena Murray; Music by Joy F. Patterson

1)  I am standing waiting, waiting at your door,

one of hunger’s children from a billion poor,

though you cannot see me, though I am so small,

listen to my crying, crying for us all.

2)  I stand at your table asking to be fed,

holding up my rice bowl begging for your bread,

I stand at your school room longing just to learn,

hoping that you’ll teach me ways to live and earn.

3)  I stand at your clinic begging for vaccine,

I stand at your wash place where the water’s clean,

I stand at your office, beg the Heads of State,

I am just a child, so I must hope and wait.

4)  I stand in your churches, listen to your prayers,

long to know a God who understands and cares.

If there is a God, a God who loves the poor,

I’m still standing waiting, waiting at your door.

Shalom   (“May you be well and whole and in communion with all creation.”)

Shalom, my friends, Shalom, my friends, Shalom, Shalom.

Till we meet again, Till we meet again, Shalom, Shalom
