Call to Worship    (Inspired by Psalm 71)

One:  In the Holy One, we take refuge; let us never be put to shame.  Our praise is continually of you.

Many:  In your righteousness deliver us and hear our cries for justice and peace.

One:  In the Holy One, we draw strength; let us never be put to shame.  Our praise is continually of you.

Many:  Be a rock of refuge for the vulnerable, a strong fortress to save creation, for you are our rock and fortress.

One:  In the Holy One, we receive courage; let us never be put to shame.  Our praise is continually of you.

Many:  Rescue us, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel, for you, Holy One, are our hope and trust.

Opening Hymn               Potluck Hymn

Scripture Lesson   Luke 4:21-30

Sermon           “We Are the Ones”           Dr. Keith Ray

Thoughts to Ponder: In today’s scripture reading, Jesus says, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”  According to Ruth Duck, whose hymn text we sang a few weeks ago, “The Spirit of God is upon Christians today, anointing us to proclaim good news and to be good news in the midst of poverty, oppression, imprisonment, and any physical condition that diminishes our lives.

What particular things can we do to make a difference?  God is at work in our city or village, and also in towns far away, among people of many faiths, bringing miracles as people minister together.  In our common ministry, we will discover that Scripture is fulfilled in our hearing and our living, through the power of love.”

Let’s consider her words and the gospel text together.

United Way sponsors a snack program for Anderson school children. Children in need are provided snacks for the weekend so they are able to learn when they return to school on Mondays. Snack packing consists of filling plastic bags with items and a handwritten word of encouragement before boxing the packs.  This is a fun event that  we have done in the past as a group.  I have decided to sign up on Tuesdays as an individual because I think this is a very special program.

Current open dates are 2/3, 2/4, 2/10, 2/25, 3/3, 3/10.  These are Mondays or Tuesdays.  The shift is from 9-11 am.  If enough people are interested in working as a group, I will book us as a group.  If you are interested in trying it out, you can also sign up as an individual at  https://uwandsc.galaxydigital.com/need/detail/?need_id=1031432. You will need to set up an account and can then sign up any open date. If you are interested or have questions, please call Vicki Wright at 585-781-4620.
