Opening Hymn   “Give Us Integrity, God, in the Ways We Are Living”       Handout

Words by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette,2026; Music by Erneuerten Gesangbuch, 1665

1)  Give us integrity, God, in the ways we are living.

Christ taught us well to be welcoming, kind, and forgiving!

Yet all around, powers of hatred abound.

May we seek Christ and obey him.

2)  Jesus reached out with a blessing and welcomed the children.

Yet all around us are forces of death that would kill them.

When there is war, we see Christ stand with the poor;

may your church also stand with them.

3)  Jesus condemned and admonished the proud and the greedy.

He said to open our hearts to the cries of the needy.

May we who say we follow Jesus today kneel with him, serving the hungry.

4)  Sometimes we hear, “That’s political!  That’s not our problem.”

Yet if we live with integrity we’ll pay attention.

May people find Christians are moral and kind

and that, with Jesus, we love them.

Scripture Reading   (to be read within)

Ezekiel 28:12-19

You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you.

You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God.

You were blameless in your ways; from the day you were created ‘till wickedness was found in you. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.

So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching.

All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a terrible end and will be no more.

Isaiah 14:12

How you have fallen from the heavens, O Morning Star, son of the dawn!  How you have been cut down to earth, you who conquered nations!

Sermon            “The Devil Made Me Do It!”             David Johnson

Prayerful Circle of Care

Closing Hymn and Offertory  “God Be with You Till We Meet Again”        Hymnal #542

1)  God be with you till we meet again; loving counsels guide, uphold you,

with a shepherd’s care enfold you: God be with you till we meet again.

2)  God be with you till we meet again; unseen wings protecting hide you,

daily manna still provide you: God be with you till we meet again.

3)  God be with you till we meet again; when life’s perils thick confound you,

put unfailing arms around you: God be with you till we meet again.

4)  God be with you till we meet again; keep love’s banner floating o’er you;

smite death’s threatening wave before you: God be with you till we meet again.

Benediction

Maggie Miller has asked for some help in sending birthday cards to her sister Pat Worrell who is in a nursing home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.  Her birthday is August 30.  Maggie will bring in a box of cards for us to use.  This small act pleases Pat so much to be remembered as her family nearby does not visit frequently, and she loves receiving mail.
