Call to Worship

Leader:   In a world beset by division and despair, we gather before the Divine who makes all things new.

People:  We come to be renewed in spirit and strengthened for the work of love.

Leader:  The Holy One breathes life into what was broken, calling us to build, to plant,         and to hope again.

People:  We open our hearts to the Spirit of renewal moving among us and within us.

Leader:   Here, in community and compassion, the Divine is creating something new.

People:  Together, with the Divine as our companion, we begin again.

All my coldness and fear to your grace I now surrender.      Refrain

2)  Write your love upon my heart as my law, my goal, my story.

In each thought, word, and deed, may my living bring you glory,Refrain

3)  May I weep with those who weep; share the joy of sister, brother.

in the welcome of Christ, may we welcome one another.Refrain

Scripture Lesson             Isaiah 65:17-25

Sermon                     “A New Day Awaits”              Dr. Keith Ray

Thoughts to Ponder:   When the people of Jerusalem returned home from exile, they found their city in ruins.  Through the prophet Isaiah, they heard a daring vision:

“I am about to create a new heaven and a new earth.”

What might that vision mean for us today — in a time of division, exhaustion, and environmental uncertainty.  How do we rebuild without giving in to despair?

How do we live as if a new world is already taking shape among us?

Joys and Concerns

Prayers of the People

Closing Hymn and Offertory       “We Shall Overcome”           Hymnal #379

                            1)  We shall overcome; we shall overcome; we shall overcome someday.

Refrain:  O, deep in my heart I do believe we shall overcome someday!

2)  We’ll walk hand in hand; we’ll walk hand in hand; we’ll walk hand in hand someday.Refrain

3)  We shall all be free; we shall all be free; we shall all be free someday.  Refrain

4)  We shall live in peace; we shall live in peace; we shall live in peace someday.

Refrain Benediction
